Her interdisciplinary work focuses on empire's mobilisations of gender and sexuality and the queer, feminist movements that emerge in confrontation and response. Currently, she's developing her book manuscript, titled ‘Genealogies of Deviance: Race, Sexuality and the Making of the Queer Muslim,’ which scrutinises queer Muslim subjectivation to reveal how hegemonic forces persistently exploit race and sexuality to render Muslims, queer or not, as deviant under European modernity. She has published in, among other outlets, Wasafiri Magazine, The Contrapuntal, Feminist Formations, Feminist Review, and Religion and Gender. She is an editor of The Hythe Review, a literary journal of critical prose and poetics published by the independent publishing collective, The87Press. Abeera is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Gender and Sexuality at SOAS, University of London.
